Man charged in fatal Nashville shooting of boy, 14, in car

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A 19-year-old man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy in Nashville as they sat in a parked vehicle at a ball field.

Metro Nashville Police say Zachary Able is charged with criminal homicide in Saturday morning’s shooting of Clayton Gangji.

Police say Able, Gangji and two others were in the SUV as Able was handling a pistol.

The gun fired a bullet through Able’s hand and into Gangji’s body.

Gangji died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Police say Able initially told detectives the shooting resulted from a robbery, but further investigation showed he lied.

In a follow-up interview, Able acknowledged he was holding the pistol when it fired.

Police detectives believe Able and Gangji were up all night with others.

The investigation is ongoing.
