Man charged with making false report against officer from jail

TBI says he called a child abuse tip line to make the false accusation

SHELBYVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – An accusation against a law enforcement officer has seemed to backfire against a man from Franklin County.

The TBI was asked to investigate the allegation that a Bedford County lieutenant had sexually assaulted a victim.

The tip came from the DCS Child Abuse Hotline.

But investigators determined the tip was bogus and now sexual assault had actually occurred.

Furthermore, they say they traced the tip to George Rayburn Martin from Cowan.

This week, Martin was the one indicted.

He faces charges of making false reports and false reporting of child sexual abuse.

Martin was served with the charges at the Bedford County jail, where he was already under arrest on other charges.
