Man pleads guilty to vehicular homicide where passenger burned to death

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – A northwest Georgia man has entered a guilty plea in a Police chase that caused one of his passengers to burn to death.
It happened a year and a half ago on East 38th Street.
Fort Oglethorpe Police were chasing a vehicle for reckless driving.
The chase entered Chattanooga, when the vehicle driven by Douglas Cody Gass hit a power pole.
The pole came down on the car, oil leaked from the transformer onto the vehicle and ignited.
Kobe Burchfield was pinned in the backseat and burned to death.
The other passenger got out okay.
Gass fled the car before the fire and got away.
He was eventually caught in Florida.
On Wednesday, Gass pleaded guilty to Vehicular Homicide, Reckless Aggravated Assault and Evading Arrest.
He will be sentenced in June.
