Man Scams Whitfield County Churches

     A Whitfield County man find himself in jail tonight…accused of stealing from several church members.
     Sheriff Scott Chitwood says Donald Ray Pitts went to at least four churches and told them he needed help during their services.
     He said his wife died and left him alone with their baby.
     Many church members gave the man money.
     Officials say he made off with about $1,500.
     When sheriff’s deputies realized it was a scam, they arrested him.
      "The word started traveling among the churches, among the ministers, hey this occurred sunday night or wednesday night for whatever the time frame was and we just started checking and things just didn’t start adding up right and then we double checked the story and could not find any verification of the story in which he was telling," said Chitwood.
        Pitts is from Calhoun Tennessee but remains in the Whitfield county jail on  a $4,000 bond,
