Marion Co One Win Away From a Return to the State Title Game
Jasper, TN-(WDEF) It’s easy to forget the vandalizing scandal that rocked Marion County last year because this year’s team has bounced back with an 11-1 record.
And now they’re one win away from the state championship game.
Marion County coach Ricky Ross felt the Warriors hit their stride about halfway through the season when the offensive line found their groove.
"We play all juniors and sophomores up there. Without having spring practice and four weeks dead in the summer, I don’t use that as an excuse because it’s not at all now, but early, it was big."
Said running back Blake Zemen,"You can notice it over the last few games. They’ve gotten better. They’ve improved a lot. That’s helped me and the other backs get past the first line of defense to get to the second level."
Of course you don’t need a whole lotta blocking for the Z-Train, running back Blake Zemen.
Said offensive lineman Logan Campbell,"Everybody has to do their part. I mean Blake makes it a little bit easier though."
Said Ross,"We’ve had comments made to us like he didn’t beat me tonight. Maybe in his yards he didn’t beat you, but in his scheme he beat you because everybody else had yards. That’s the greatest thing about Blake is that he understands that. It’s not about the yards."
The Warriors offensive line will be in for a big challenge against Knox Grace.
Said Ross,"They’re really big. They’re big up-front. They’re backs are big. You don’t look out there and see any kids and go oh, he doesn’t fit the part."
Said Campbell,"We’re ready. We’re ready to get it going."
If Marion Co wins on Friday, they’ll return to the state title game for the first time in roughly twenty years.
Said Zemen,"That’s the one goal we want to get to. We hope we can do it. We’re one game away."
