Mayor Berke explains why the city is making the July 16th anniversary an all-day event

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga has scheduled a full day of activities to mark the first anniversary of the July 16th attack next Saturday.

The city will hold a memorial service at 11:00 AM, which is about the time of the attack on the Naval Reserve Center. (We will air it live on the air & online).

The service will honor the Fallen Five and their survivors at Riverfront Parkway.

But the day also includes an inter-faith service, a patriotic concert at Riverfront Nights, and the illumination of the Fallen Five Mural on McCallie Avenue.

Check out the city’s website for the full details.

Wednesday morning, Mayor Andy Berke explained how this evolved on News 12 This Morning.

“We think this is a really important day in Chattanooga’s history. We want to honor the heroes who lost their lives that day and their families. And we make sure we do this event as Chattanooga should.”
