Mayor Berke on jobs at Mayor’s breakfast

Chattnooga, Tenn. (WDEF)– Chattanooga mayor Andy Berke and Hamilton county mayor Jim Coppinger agree on one thing—workforce development should be the number one priority for 2017.

Both spoke this morning at the annual mayor’s breakfast.

Berke is taking that promise one step further by adding it as a major plank in his re-election campaign.

“Over the next few years we gotta do more to meet people where they are. We know there are people in neighborhoods that don’t have skills that they need so we can go to our rec centers –have programs there for them. We can figure out how different people who are in different positions..they may need a job to get to the next level of employment–a path to the middle class,” said Mayor Berke.

Mayor Berke says the city will be starting an Office for Workforce Development to facilitate that 4-point program.
