Mayor Coppinger Vetos 2015-16 Budget

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF-TV) – Hamilton county Mayor Jim Coppinger has vetoed the budget passed by the County Commission last week.
After Coppinger presented the budget, six commissioners voted to amend it and restore the traditional 100-thousand dollar discretionary fund for each of them.
They earmarked it to come from the general fund.

MAYOR JIM COPPINGER, HAMILTON COUNTY "The commission’s decision to amend the budget and add 900-thousand dollars in discretionary funding is a disapointment to myself and the financial staff…who worked for months ..worked for months to prepare and present a balanced budget ." >

Coppinger said he left out the 900-thousand dollars because there was no revenue source to pay for it.
He thanked Commissioners Joe Graham, Marty Haynes and Greg beck for supporting the original budget.
WDEF news 12 phoned and emailed all but one of the commissioners today but received no response.
It will take 5 commission votes to override the mayor’s veto.
