Mayoral Candidate David Crockett Voices Concern From Mayor Berke’s Pledge

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Mayoral candidate and former city councilmen, David Crockett, voiced his concerns with a pledge Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke made last week.

The mayor promised to give $1,000,000  towards a new children’s hospital in honor of the children who died in the Woodmore crash.

Crockett says that since Mayor Berke did not discuss this with the council before hand it will not be able to brought in front of the council for another six months, and that the mayor is writing a check for the next administration to deal with.

“But this is not his money. This is the people’s money. This is the people’s house. This is where this is discussed and he doesn’t have a right to spend the people’s money in such a way,” stated Crockett.

Crokett says that if elected he would not anticipate recommending the pledge to the council.
