McCallie students take a break from class to learn to sew

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – McCallie students are putting down the books and learning useful skills.

This morning, the students were at UTC’s theatre department learning how to sew.

At McCallie, they are participating in two weeks of what they call tornado term.

They take a break from their regular class schedule and learn different practical skills.

Students say they enjoy getting outside of the classroom and doing something new.

Kevin Collins told us “It is learning stuff you don’t normally learn on a day to day basis and it gives you more practical information for doing stuff like in the house or outside of our campus.”

In addition to sewing, students recently worked with tools and learned how to make bread.
