McMinn County Honors Teens For Saving Neighbor

Athens, TN (WDEF) – McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy will honor a pair of teenagers today for their effort to help a neighbor.

They called in a domestic disturbance that happened next door to them on Tuesday.

Investigators say wheel- chair bound Rubie Hiehle came out of her house and screamed for help.

Then 36-year old Timothy Hitt came outside, assaulted her and wheeled her back inside.

15 year old Devon Green and 13 year old Chase McCallister called 911 to report it and stayed on the line with dispatchers.

Sheriff Joe Guy says “Our officers felt that the actions of these two young men likely saved Ms Hiehle’s life.”

When deputies arrived, they found Hiehle unconscious inside the home.

They say that Hitt also threatened another young boy at the residence.

Officers charged him with Aggravated Domestic Assault and Especially Aggravated Kidnapping.

The Sheriff adds “Chase and Devon were very courageous to make call.”

“They did a great job in staying on the line and keeping the dispatcher and our responding deputies updated with what was happening.”

The Sheriff’s Department will present the teens with letters of commendation today.
