Meet February Do the Right Thing Winners: Steve and Rachel Davis

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Tennessee Valley couple is using their thrift store to help people in the community.

Steve and Rachel Davis opened Second Blessings Thrift Store in 2008 to provide affordable clothing, household items, and even food to those in need.

That’s why they are this month’s Do the Right Thing winners.

“I’m at a loss for words, but I’m so grateful,” Steve said. “We’re just so thankful for the blessings of the Lord. He knows exactly what we need, and when we need it. And I just appreciate that so much from the bottom of my heart.”

The couple does more than just sell furniture, clothing, and household items. They use the store to help people.

“To us, having this thrift store is not about making big money, but we are just here to help people, and that’s what it’s all about for us,” Steve said.

“We’re here to extend a hand to those that are hurting, and those that are maybe sometimes down on their luck, so it’s always another chance to pay it forward and give in another way,” Rachel said.

They’re paying it forward by housing two homeless people, providing a food pantry, and running Living Waters Ministries to help with people’s spiritual needs.

“This store has been as big of a blessing to us as it has been to the community,” Rachel said.

The Davises even took in two young kids last year whose parents were struggling with drug addiction.

The couple says their mission is to change lives and help those who need it.

Their customers appreciate their service.

“I don’t think that you can give anymore than yourself and your time, and they’ve done it 100 percent all the way,” said Beverly Swafford, who nominated the Davises for the Do the Right Thing award. “They’re the greatest people you could know.”
