Military heroes honored at Chattanooga Convention Center

Venue hosts 8th Annual American Heroes Dinner

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Convention Center played host Friday night to some of America’s best and bravest.

The 8th Annual American Heroes Dinner was hosted again by the Honoring the Sacrifice Foundation, which supports severely wounded veterans and their families.

One wounded warrior says this yearly event is like coming home to see old friends.

“I lost my older brother in Iraq and that led me to serve in the Army, as well,” said Retired Sgt. Franz Walkup. “I ended up getting injured. Having a nonprofit like this putting on an event downtown Chattanooga, it’s great because they’re giving back. Once a year, I come down here and see all of them. It’s like a family reunion, as you will.”

The dinner serves as a fundraiser for the nonprofit to provide direct financial and material assistance to wounded veterans in need.

Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney of the Air Force served as the keynote speaker.

Yes, he even flew himself to the event.
