Ministry serves free meals for the homeless
For the past 12 months, Michael McClendon has spent his Saturdays cooking hundreds of hot dogs for free.
He says it’s all part of a promise he made a long time ago.
"Last year when I got out of prison I was homeless, had no where to go. And I found myself down here with these people, a lot of them become like family. It was really cold and we all survived it together and I always told everybody if I ever do better I’d come back so, it’s not much but I come and feed them," says McClendon.
McClendon collects donations every week so he can cook 500 hot dogs for everyone in need.
"The biggest question I get asked by people is why do you come down here on a Saturday, don’t you have anything better to do? Yes of course I do but you know what, when God tells you to do something you either do it or you don’t," says McClendon.
McClendon is the Assistant Director for Whatever It Takes Ministry and he says his mission is to serve others.
"Some of them are hungry and some of them aren’t. We just come out here and fellowship with some great people," says McClendon.
Several volunteers have jumped on board, including some from other churches, who were handing out supplies at the end of the line.
Longtime supporter Tony Ferguson gives it a five star all around.
"It’s really good. I mean you can get sauteed onions and stuff like that, put anything you want in your chili. You’ve got really nice people doing it for you and people really need to thank him for what he’s doing," says Ferguson.
