Rome Minor League Baseball team now known as “Emperors”

Rome, Ga. (WDEF) — The Rome Braves are a thing of the past. They have officially changed their mascot.

The North Georgia minor league baseball team is now known as the Rome Emperors.

The Minor League Baseball says the Rome team received 5,300 name suggestions from fans, and they decided to go with the “Emperors” because it is multi-faceted.

Rome’s new logo features an emperor penguin, dressed in ancient Roman attire.

ROME, Ga. (WDEF) — The Minor League Baseball team in Rome, Georgia is ready to change their name. The team will keep their affiliation with the Atlanta Braves but will no longer be referred to as “the Braves.”

Until the name change happens, they are calling themselves “Rome Professional Baseball.”

The new name will be official come the 2024 season.

“We want to create an identity that fans across the region can proudly claim and call their own,” the team said in their press release. The team wants the new name to resonate with their diverse fan base.

Anyone can fill out a form online to suggest a new name for the team. The site also asks for the reason for each name suggestion.

The name suggestion form officially opened on Friday, August 11. Those who want to submit an idea have just one week, until August 18.
