Mocs Basketball to Feature Totally Different Roster After Off Season Departures

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The Mocs basketball team won only ten games last season, and head coach Lamont Paris thought he was going to return a tremendous nucleus for his second season. Then close to half the players decided to leave the team.
That hurt, but coach Paris still likes what he sees for next year.

The Mocs were short on experience last year, but not heart.
And with nearly the entire roster expected back, UTC was hoping to combine that heart and experience for a dynamic team.
Then UTC’s leading four scorers transferred out of the program.
Said Paris:”I mean some of it was a little surprising, while other parts of it was not surprising necessarily. I think it’s just a day and age where we see a lot of kids that for whatever reason end up moving on to another spot.”
Chattanooga had the youngest team in America at the start of last year.
Now coach Paris will be back in the same boat next season.
Said Paris:”It’s completely starting over from a roster standpoint. We will still have only one senior this year.”
Only one senior, but it appears there’s talent.
The Mocs have the top recruiting class in the SoCon according to Midmajor madness.
The class features Ramon Vila, a 6’8, 240-pound transfer from Arizona State.
Said Paris:”I think he’s going to be able to shoot from the perimiter, which that’s something he has really never gotten to show that he can do. But he’s confident around the basket. He has got good hands and good touch, and he’s got a really good feel for the game.”
The Mocs also signed Kevin Easley, an ESPN four star recruit.
The 6’6 power forward from Indianapolis was listed as the sixth best high school prospect in the state of Indiana.
Said Paris:”I think when it’s all said and done, he has got a chance to be a really, really, really good player, particularly on the offensive end. He can do so many things.”
And Paris can’t wait to coach up this new team.
Said Paris:”It’s challenging, but it is exciting. It’s part of what you like doing in this business.”
