Mocs Bats Go Cold on Chilly Night in 3-0 Loss to Belmont
(gomocs.com) CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – On a cold, windy night at Frost Stadium, the Chattanooga Mocs softball team stranded six runners and dropped a tough 3-0 decision to Belmont on Wednesday evening.
Following the loss, the Mocs fall to 8-12 on the season. Belmont improved to an impressive 12-3 overall.
Freshman pitcher Allison Swinford (3-3) had one of her best outings of the season in the circle. Swinford tossed a complete game and allowed just three hits while yielding only one earned run of the three total runs scored by Belmont.
The Mocs defense and offense both went cold, committing three errors and mustering only four hits in the loss.
Brook Womack finished the game 1-for-3 and had the only extra-base hit of the game for UTC with a double in the seventh inning. Amy Lewis, Morgan Kazerooni and Aly Walker all singled for the Mocs.
Belmont plated an unearned run in the top of the third after a Mocs fielding error allowed the inning to continue.
The Bruins extended their lead after a solo homerun in the top of the fourth and would later add another run in the sixth on an interference call to build a 3-0 advantage.
Chattanooga put runners on second and third with no outs in the final frame after a lead-off walk and Womack’s double. They couldn’t piece a rally together as Belmont’s starting pitcher Brooklin Lee retired the next three UTC hitters in order.
The Mocs will now head to Clearwater, Fla., to play 11 games in ten days during the USF Under Armour Invitational. They’ll start the action on Friday against UCF and Central Michigan at 4:15 and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
