Mocs Can Wreak Havoc With 6’10 SoCon Giants in Makinde London and Justin Tuoyo

Chattanooga-(WDEF) SoCon teams have had to deal with 6’10 Mocs center Justin Tuoyo the last couple of seasons. Then UTC went out and added another athletic 6’10 guy this season in Makinde London. Imagine the grief around the league in having to defend Chattanooga’s pair of SoCon giants.
Mocs coach Matt McCall must feel like an NBA coach since he can run two, athletic 6’10 guys on the court at the same time.
Said McCall:”I think it’s a huge luxury. I think the biggest thing is when you have those two guys on the floor just with their length and athleticism at the same time.”
Said Tuoyo:”Especially in the SoCon. Like I said, most bigs right now are probably 6’7 or 6’8. So when you put two of us at 6’10 in the game, and we both can run, and we’re both athletic, I mean it just gives us all the advantage in the world.”
Added London:”I think it’s a great experience. It’s something that doesn’t come around a lot. We’re just enjoying it. We’re are enjoying our time together each and every day.”
McCall says Tuoyo and London can really do some damage when they team up offensively.
Said McCall:”The second half versus Marshall was one of our better halves offensively that we played. Lot of that half was played with both Tuoyo and Makinde in the game together. I think Tuoyo is one of the best passing big guys in the country. I really do. He has got such an ability and such a feel. That’s why a lot of times offensively, we’ll run stuff through him.”
But McCall admits there are times when he can’t afford both guys on the floor at once.
Said McCall:”Well I just think defensively there are a lot of power forwards in our league that are a little bit smaller and a little bit faster and shoot more three’s. When we face teams like that, we like to switch a lot because essentially they’re playing four guards. So when you have two big guys out there that are both good at guarding five’s, sometimes Makinde can struggle a litlte bit guarding power forwards.
Tuoyo leads the SoCon in blocks, and he says he doesn’t need London’s help to pad that stat category.
Tuoyo:”It doesn’t matter who is out there, I’m going to block shots.”
