Mocs Coach Tom Arth Sizes Up Completion of Spring Practice

Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Chattanooga Mocs completed spring practice Tuesday afternoon at Finley Stadium.
Before going through the workout, new head coach Tom Arth sized up what he has learned about his 2017 squad.
Spring is a time for some younger or new players to step up, and that always makes a head coach feel better.
Said Arth:”I think the running back position and the wide receiver position offensively, we’ve kind of found some guys in there that maybe we weren’t sure of. We didn’t see as much on film.”
Arth is really excited about the Mocs defensive line.
Said Arth:”Our defensive line is going to be the heart and soul of our team. They’re very talented. They’re very competitive. They play very hard. I think that
Derek Mahaffey and Isaiah Mack have been two guys that have really stood out to us.”
Getting to see quarterback Alejandro Bennifield in person has also made an impression on Arth.
Said Arth:”I mean it’s almost every single day that we’re out here, and we turn the tape on, and it’s just. He’s got one or two throws that were impressive.”
Two Chattanooga natives are providing depth at quarterback in Baylor’s Nick Tiano and East Hamilton’s Hunter Moore.
Said Arth:”Nick has had a great spring. I think that has proven that he’s capable of being a starter at this level. Hunter has also done great. Hunter walked on for us. We’re looking at him and thinking man, this guy. He could be playing at some schools at the FCS level.”
Overall, Arth believes his first spring practice at UTC has been successful.
Said Arth:”I think we’ve seen a lot of growth. We’ve seen a lot of development. A lot of improvement in our players. Just looking to finish that out today.”
