Mocs Face “NCAA Tournament Situation” in Showdown With Furman

( CHATTANOOGA — After earning a thrilling 71-69 victory on national television the first time around, the Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team is set for its highly anticipated rematch with second-place Furman for a key Southern Conference tilt on Saturday afternoon inside Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C.

Chattanooga (21-5, 11-2 SoCon) is coming off a 65-47 victory over Western Carolina on Wednesday night inside the Roundhouse in which the team secured its 21st win of the season. Entering Friday, UTC is one of just seven teams in the country with 21 or more wins.

The Mocs are two games ahead in the SoCon regular season standings at 11-2 with the upcoming opponent in Furman (17-9, 9-4 SoCon) sitting in second. After winning five-straight following the loss to Chattanooga on January 15, the Paladins dropped back-to-back contests last week, one at home to UNCG (L, 56-58) and one on the road at ETSU (L, 71-75).

Said head coach Lamont Paris:”If you go there and win, then you obviously put yourself in a phenomenal situation. They know that. Likewise they are telling themselves if we win this one here guys. Boom! It’s one deal. It’s a one game deal. For us we always try to prepare the same. We’re not going to do anything. I’m not going to play ‘Eye of the Tiger’ or anything like that going into the game because it’s that right. It’s one game for whatever, but it will seem like for a lot more. It will seem like an NCAA tournament situation.”

The game at Furman can be streamed LIVE on ESPN+ and can be accessed through the Watch ESPN platform. Fans can also listen LIVE on WFLI 96.1 FM/100.3 FM/1070 AM in Chattanooga as well as the Varsity Network app.
