Mocs Football Seniors Can Win SoCon Ring For Every Year They Played

Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Chattanooga Mocs have been picked to win their fourth straight SoCon title this year, which would set a new school record.
If UTC manages to pull it off, that means the seniors will have won the league title every year they’ve played.
Not bad for a program that always used to be at the bottom of the SoCon standings.
Even though UTC had won only 3 games in the two seasons before Russ Huesman took over the program in 2009, Huesman thought he was coaching America’s team.
Said Huesman-“I can tell you this. Everybody liked us. We were well liked throughout the country. When everybody is coming in and beating you, they shake your hand and pat you on the back, and say man, I really love Chattanooga and that Huesman guy there.”
No love for the Mocs anymore, especially when they hit the road.
Said senior receiver Xavier Borishade-“When people see us on their schedule, it’s that week for them. I think they know it’s game time, and we came to play, so they better be ready to play.”
Added Huesman-“When they start to hate you, then you start to build some rivalries. That’s when you know you’ve gotten a little bit better.”
UTC is not only building rivalries, but a fan base as well.
Said senior running back Derrick Craine-“We went to Samford last year, and the whole stands were full of blue and gold. That was something special to see. Just knowing the fans have our backs like that, it motivates us on the field too.”
Claiming conference titles also adds to the motivation.
Said Huesman-“They believe they can win games and beat people and win championships. I think confidence plays a big part in it.”
Reporter-“What do you do with all of your rings now?”
Said Craine-“Actually, I gave all of them to my mom. I don’t really want to hold onto something like that. It’s something special and something to cherish forever.”
Of course it’s not a given UTC will win the SoCon again this year, but Huesman likes the Mocs chances.
Huesman-“I like our team. They’ve got a workman like approach to them. They come out everyday to work. As long as that’s happening, you probably feel pretty good about them.”
