Mocs Golfer Lake Johnson 3 Off the Lead Going to Final Round of SoCon Championships
(GoMocs.com) PINEHURST, N.C.—Lake Johnson’s 2-under par 70 led the Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf team in Monday’s second round at the Southern Conference Championships on Pinehurst No. 9. Johnson turned in three birdies and an eagle over his 18 holes.
He was joined in red numbers by Kory Webb and Wes Gosselin. The duo each carded level-par 72. Webb had two birdies and 14 pars, while Gosselin matched him in pars posting an eagle and birdie as well.
Johnson moved up into a tie for fifth at -2 overall. Webb is one behind, tied for eighth at -1. The Mocs shot 294 as a team and is fifth at 586. They’re just three behind Furman (583) in fourth.
Andrew Weathers fought off a tough front side playing the back at -1. His 80 rounded out the counting scores. Brooks Thomas tallied the drop number with an 81.
The Terriers had a tournament-best 3-under 285 to move into the lead at E (576). ETSU is second at 577, while UNCG moved into third at 581. First round leader Jeremy Grab (-5) from Wofford kept his one-stroke lead over UNCG’s Luke Haithcock (-4).
Tuesday’s final 18 is an early morning start. Thomas gets it started at 8:15 on No. 10 with Weathers (8:24), Gosselin (8:33), Webb (8:42) and Johnson (8:51) following.
