Mocs Hoping to Avoid Playing Like a 1-5 Team Against Mercer
Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Chattanooga Mocs hit the road Saturday against Mercer still unsettled at quarterback and wondering if their running game will finally come around.
For a team that started the year ranked in the top 20, it’s hard to believe the Mocs are 1-5 at the halfway point of the season.
Said defensive lineman Derek Mahaffey:”We all know what we’ve got to do. We’re really right there from being 5-1. It might not look like it, but it is.”
Cardiello:”We have a lot of talent on this team. I think we are definitely a better team than our record shows.”
Maybe the Mocs could be 5-1 with more stability at quarterback.
Alejandro Bennfield remains in concussion protocal.
Nick Tiano is fighting a shoulder injury.
So true freshman Cole Copeland could start again this week against Mercer.
Said head coach Tom Arth:”We all love Cole. We all believe in Cole. We have great confidence in him. I think that gives him more confidence. I think that allows him to relax as well knowing that those older guys especially trust him.”
Arth would be even happier if his team ran the ball better.
The Mocs had only seven yards rushing against Furman.
Reporter:”Would you ever consider being like an ‘Air Raid’ type offense and throw it 50 or 60 times a game.”
Said Arth:”No. No. I wouldn’t. I don’t think it’s what is best for your team. I think you look at a lot of those teams that run a million plays and throw it 50 times a game. Defensively, their yards per game and points per game are high.”
Defensively, All American linebacker Dale Warren returns this week following a six game NCAA suspension.
Said Arth:”At the walk-thru, his eyes like he was so locked in and so focused. He thought he was going to kill one of the trash cans that we were using that represent the offensive line.”
Said Mahaffey:”Having Dale back is going to create a sense of dominance too in my opinion.”
