Mocs Malachi Smith Encouraged by UTC Coach to Test NBA Waters

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – Chattanooga Mocs leading scorer Malachi Smith has decided to test the NBA waters. He has made himself eligible for this summer’s draft. Smith has not signed with an agent, so he can return to UTC if he doesn’t like his draft grade. Smith averaged close to 17 points and 9 rebounds a game this past year. He says Mocs head coach Lamont Paris encouraged him to make the decision.

“I was scared to ask, but Coach already had the form. So when I brought it up, he was like, ‘I was thinking the same thing as you.’ It’s a dream come true. A lot of players wish they had coaches that or even have their backs like I do. I’m very grateful. I know just looking off of the season, thinking about how far I’ve come, how far I’ve grown as a player and just thinking about my future and what could possibly make that dream a reality.”
