Mocs Must Tackle Top Ranked Alabama After Tough SoCon Loss to Wofford

Chattanooga-(WDEF) Chattanooga is going from a tough loss to Wofford to a tough team in Alabama.
The 8-2 Mocs close out their regular season Saturday against the top-ranked Tide.
Chattanooga is still ranked 11th in the nation, but coach Huesman doesn’t think his team has been playing up to its ranking lately.
Said Russ Huesman:”And I’ve been a little bit disappointed the last four weeks. I don’t think we’ve played well, even though we won a couple of games. We beat Western (Carolina) and VMI. I didn’t think we played well. I didn’t think we prepared well.”
Said defensive back Lucas Webb:”It just seemed like we didn’t come out as excited or as fired up as we usually do. That’s something that he said we definitely need to fix.”
With the loss to Wofford, the Mocs could wind up tied for second in the Socon with two other teams. While the playoff committee may or may not take four teams from the SoCon in the playoffs, Chattanooga doesn’t feel like they’re on the playoff bubble.
Said offensive lineman Corey Levin:”I think we’ll get into the playoffs. I think what we’ve done here over the past few years should give us a little bit of an edge.”
Said Huesman:”All four of our (SoCon) teams. I don’t think people will be excited to play anybody out of our league in the playoffs.”
Not many people are excited to play top ranked Alabama either.
Said Huesman:”I mean I think everybody in the country knows that this is the best football team in the country.”
The Mocs know it will be an uphill battle against Bama’s talented defense.
Said Huesman:”We can’t drop back and expect to block their four guys with our five guys. Nobody has done it. It’s not like little ol’Chattanooga is scared to death. Ain’t nobody blocked those dudes. The 93 (Jonathan Allen) man, you guys probably saw it on television. The play. He beats the offensive guard so fast, and the back decides he’s going to step up there and help him out and cut him. And he leaps over the dude. You guys probably remember that one. And you watch that one on film, and you just go oh man.”
Alabama has beaten Chattanooga by a combined score of 94-0 in their last two meetings.
Kickoff is set for 7pm, and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
