Mocs QB Nick Tiano Among SoCon Leaders in Second Season Under Center
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Most good football teams get solid play at quarterback, and that’s what UTC is getting this year from Nick Tiano. The second year signal caller has the Mocs dreaming of the playoffs with a 5-2 record going into their bye week.
Nick Tiano’s stock has risen this year, just check out the numbers.
In the five games he played last year, Tiano threw for 873 yards.
This year he has doubled that output in just seven games throwing for over 1,800 yards.
Said Tiano:”For me it’s really just a confidence thing. Last year being new here. New on the team. New offense. New system. New coaches. New teammates. You know it was a lot, and it was tough for me to adjust. I put a lot of pressure on myself.”
Said head coach Tom Arth:”Biggest improvement for Nick really results from his experience. He was really playing college football for the first time last season. In the first four games of the year. Really kind of thrown into a situation that was very much unexpected.”
Tiano was sharp to start the year. In the Mocs opener against Tennessee Tech, he was 21 of 32 for 318-yards.
Said Arth:”I think that really kind of helped build his confidence and know like okay, I felt good coming into it. Now I know I can do it, and I can do it at a really high level.”
Coach Arth admires the way Tiano will hang tough to make a big throw.
Said Arth:”He has done that all season long. He has really stood in the pocket. Taken some big shots and delivered accurate passes down the field. That motivates the team.”
Tiano is currently the second leading passer in the SoCon, but he’s not worried about personal rankings.
Said Tiano:”Wins and losses. I know it’s cliche, but that’s really all that matters at the end of the day. I feel like when your mind is on that then the rest of the stuff will take care of itself.”
Said Arth:”The stats. They can lie to you. What matters is the way that he leads our team, and the way that our team responds to his leadership, and that’s what we’ve been most proud of.”
