Mocs Ready to Enjoy Playoff Experience
Chattanooga-(WDEF) It’s March Madness gridiron style for the Chattanooga Mocs. UTC is one of 24 teams to make the FCS playoffs.
And Saturday, they’ll begin their quest for a national title as they host Fordham.
As the Mocs gear up for Fordham, the coaches and players admit there’s a new energy and mindset for the playoffs.
Said head coach Russ Huesman-"Yeah there’s a lot of excitement that surrounds it. There really is. I feel it. I think our players feel it."
Said defensive back Sema’je Kendall-"Every week could be your last week. There’s nothing like that atmosphere though. It reminds me a lot of high school. Just being out there, and you basically have to fight to keep playing."
Added quarterback Jacob Huesman-"So it definitely feels like a win or go home type first round of the playoffs type of game for me."
The Mocs defense will have their hands full.
They’ll face All-American running back Chase Edmonds, who has over 16-hundred yards rushing.
Said Coach Huesman,-"If there’s a better running back in FCS football than this kid, I ain’t seen him. I’d be shocked if there is one."
Besides tackling Edmonds, the UTC offense must avoid a few bug-a-boos.
Said Coach Huesman-"This year, we’ve turned the ball over too many times. We’ve been penalized too many times. For anybody to win a playoff game, if you’re getting penalized a lot and turning the ball over, you’re going to be eliminated pretty quickly."
Senior quarterback Jacob Huesman will head into the post-season as the SoCon Offensive Player of the Year. He won the award for the third time today becoming the first player in league history to accomplish that feat.
Said Huesman,-"It’s an honor to know that the coaches think so highly of me. You can look on this list. I’ve got the list up here with me. All of our other guys who got honored on the first and second teams. You can see how blessed I am to have so much firepower around me."
