Mocs Running Back Alex Trotter Ready For His Sophomore Season
Chattanooga-(WDEF) During Alex Trotter’s senior year at McCallie, he once ran for 374-yards in one game.
The Mocs wouldn’t mind seeing that kind of production from Trotter, as he prepares for his sophomore season.
Since UTC needed depth at running back last season, Alex Trotter got to see some playing time in the Mocs backfield as a true freshman.
He ran for 72-yards on 20 carries.
Said Trotter-“We had a lot of redshirts. I guess it was an honor for me and a couple of other guys to get some reps last season.”
And Trotter admits to having one of those freshman moments.
Said Trotter-“My first game, I ran the wrong play. I was kind of nervous. I kind of adjusted to it after maybe three or four weeks. It’s a lot faster in college.”
Coach Huesman likes what he has seen from Trotter this spring.
Said Russ Huesman-“Feel good about him in his role next year. He’ll have a big role again. Obviously, we’ve got (Derrick) Craine back, who will get the bulk of the carries. But we feel really good about Alex.”
Trotter is listed at 5’9, 175-pounds, and Huesman says he’s growing into more than a scat-back.
Said Huesman-“Right now, he’s using his speed and quickness. As he gets older and starts to mature, he’ll start to gain some weight.”
Said Trotter-“Being a smaller running back, it seems like a lot of times you get picked on. I think small guys can pack a punch, and pack a punch like big guys.”
In UTC’s last scrimmage, the speedy Trotter could have used one more quick burst to take a screen pass to the house. He picked up 49-yards on the play.
Said Trotter-“I think my legs were kind of dead. We had lifted that day. My legs were through.”
