Mocs Russ Huesman Preparing For “Probably The Biggest Game Since We’ve Been Here”

Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Mocs and the Citadel will battle for the SoCon Championship this Saturday at Finley Stadium.

Chattanooga is 5-1 in conference play, while the Bulldogs are 6-0. The Mocs would share the league crown with a win, but they would earn the SoCon’s automatic playoff bid by virtue of a head-to-head win over the Bulldogs.

Mocs coach Russ Huesman is ready to give the Citadel game a banner headline saying,"Probably the biggest game since we’ve been here."
Huesman says this match-up has been on his radar for awhile.
"Two or three weeks ago, you kind of knew it was coming to this if we could take care of business. It’s not like it snuck up on you or it’s a surprise."
If Chattanooga loses, they will not get the SoCon title and automatic bid to the playoffs.
In other words, their post-season fate would be in the hands of the playoff committee, which can be dicey.
Said defensive back Sema’je Kendall-"We like to be in a position where we control our own destiny. That’s what we want to do. We have the opportunity this year."
Said offensive lineman Synjen Herren-"We all know the situation we’re in. We have to keep winning to keep playing."
Huesman says the Citadel reminds him of his own team.
"They’re playing with a chip on their shoulder. Very similar to how we played last year. Watching them on film, they’re as good as anybody in the league on defense, including us."
With all that’s on the line, Huesman hopes his team carries a confident swagger into Saturday’s showdown.
"I want a sense of urgency from our guys. I want a bounce in their step. I want a relaxed football team too."
Said Herren-"Winner take all. I think it adds a little motivation to some guys. It gives that little extra oomph to perform."
Kickoff is at 2pm from Finley Stadium.
