Mocs Set to Kickoff Season With Top Ten Showdown Against Jax State

Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Mocs and Jacksonville State are starting to establish a pretty good rivalry because both teams are pretty good. Their slugfest last year was settled in overtime. And as they prepare for their rematch on Saturday, both teams will enter Finley Stadium ranked in the top ten.

If this year’s game against Jacksonville State is anything like last years…the field may need to be decontaminated afterwards.
Said Mocs linebacker Nakevion Leslie,"I remember towards the end of the game, I just started bleeding out of my hands. I just wiped it on my uniform. I knew there was no break for me, so I had to buckle up and keep going."
Added head coach Russ Huesman,"Could be one of those epic battles there."
UTC lost 26-23 in overtime to JSU last year, but the Gamecocks defensive line really dominated, holding the Mocs to 111 yards of offense.
Said Huesman,"You couldn’t get any push upfront on these guys. It wasn’t just us. A lot of teams couldn’t get push. They’re athletic. They’re long. They’re big."
Said offensive lineman Synjen Herren,"They beat us physically in everything, especially upfront. We didn’t help the team by any means."
"We’ll play better this year. I have a good feeling."
The Mocs will have to deal with another stout Gamecocks defensive line on Saturday.
And since this is a battle of top ten teams, Chattanooga is hoping for a huge crowd.
Said Huesman,"U.S. Women’s soccer team coming in and playing (at Finley). That’s a pretty big event, and the fans showed up. I think this is a big event. I think they’re going to show up."
Said Leslie,"I just left a class, and my teacher pointed at me and Keionta (Davis) and was like, are you guys ready? Asked if we were ready and excited about it. But it’s a lot more buzz around town than it was last year for sure."
Kickoff is set for 6pm on Saturday at Finley Stadium.
