Mocs Thriving Behind ‘Under the Radar’ Point Guard Greg Pryor

Chattanooga-(WDEF) You hear it every year during March Madness.
The NCAA tournament is about guard play.
If that’s the case, then the Mocs have to feel pretty confident heading into the Big Dance because they have a tough point guard in junior Greg Pryor.
Ask Chattanooga head coach Matt McCall about Greg Pryor, and the first thing he says is, I wouldn’t trade Pryor for any point guard in the country.
Said Pryor-“It makes me feel great just knowing that my head coach has got a lot of confidence in me, and he believes in me a lot. He has given me the keys to lead the ship.”
Said McCall-“He’s not consumed at all with himself or his numbers. He wants to win, and the approach that he has everyday to go about his business. He has such a level of professionalism about him.”
Added forward Chuck Ester-“The way he carries himself. He comes on the court early to everything. Works hard. He’s just a really good player.”
Pryor signed with a junior college out of high school. But his juco coach let him out of his scholarship when UTC came into the picture.
Said Pryor-“I’ve always been like that. I’ve always been under the radar as a basketball player.”
Said McCall-“Coming out of high school, he has always played with this chip on his shoulder. That’s what makes him a special player.”
McCall says Pryor has all the intangibles you desire in a point guard.
Said McCall-“I mean I don’t think it’s just his offense. Defensively, he has taken charges. Big charges at big moments in games. He just impacts winning all over the floor both offensively and defensively, and that’s what you want out of your point guard.”
Pryor was named the MVP of the SoCon Tournament as the Mocs beat ETSU to earn a trip to the Big Dance.
Said Pryor-“It just showed that my hard work is paying off, and that I’m actually reaping the benefits of my hard work.”
Pryor will face one of the nation’s top point guards on Thursday in Indiana’s Yogi Ferrell. The Mocs and Hoosiers tip at 7:10pm on Thursday from Des Moines, Iowa. The game will be televised on News 12 Now.
