Mom & child pinned by tree in bed

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The rescues continued on Tuesday after Sunday night’s storms.

today, a tree fell on a home on Glendale Drive at the foot of Signal Mountain.

The tree crashed through the roof and into a bedroom.

It pinned a woman and her young daughter in the bed.

Chattanooga firefighters responded.

They had to stabilize the tree and support the floor underneath it at the same time.

Crews shored up the floor from the basement below.

Then they lifted the tree enough to slide the mother and daughter out.

The victims only suffered minor injuries. 

“The crews worked together and did a wonderful job, even before additional equipment arrived,” said Captain David Tallent with CFD Special Operations.

The fire department has also released more information on the fatalities and injured from the storms.

We told you how Rafael Jenkins was killed when a tree fell on his home on Wilcox Boulevard.

The other fatality was 46 year old Jose Arzate.

A tree fell on his trailer in the Auburn Hills Mobile Home Park near Woodland Drive and Bill Reed Road.

17 people were sent to the hospital with injuries.

And several of the first responders who helped them also lost their homes to the storms.
