MONROE COUNTY — The Monroe County Sheriff, Tommy Jones, is warning of a scam that could impact individuals.

They say they have been made aware of scam calls from individuals claiming to be with Publisher’s Clearing House, according to Jones.

In these scams they are asking for personal information such as a date of birth and/or Social Security number.

They remind individuals to not give out personal information to anyone who calls you unexpectedly – especially if they claim you’ve won a prize or represent a bank, government agency, or sweepstakes company.

Jones reminds locals that if you did not make the phone call yourself, do not provide: date of birth, Social Security number, banking information, address or other personal information.

Jones says legitimate companies, banks, and government agencies will NOT call you out of the blue and ask you for sensitive information.
