More economic pressure on Georgia Governor Deal over possible religious liberty bill veto
ATLANTA (WDEF) – The clock is ticking on Georgia Governor Nathan Deal.
He has until May 3rd to sign the religious liberty bill into law.
It’s goal is to protect opponents of same sex marriage for religious reasons, but critics say it legalizes discrimination.
On Monday, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that the bill has already cost two unnamed economic projects to drop Georgia from consideration.
And the entertainment business is threatening boycotts of the state where they do a lot of business.
Times Warner, Fox, CBS, NBC Universal, Disney and Marvel have all urged the Governor to veto the bill.
Netflix could yank to future productions planned for the state, CBS/CW could pull The Originals & the Vampire Diaries, and AMC is threatening moving The Walking Dead.
Amblin Partners is the latest Hollywood company to threaten a boycott.
“Amblin Partners is committed to diversity and inclusion for all. We would be disappointed to see our pipeline of production end at the Georgia border because of this legislation. While we are aware that Governor Deal has not yet made a decision, we stand with our industry colleagues in strongly urging him to veto this bill.”
