CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)-  More close friends of the late Kevin West are reacting to his sudden passing Monday.

West died after suffering a medical emergency Monday morning.

One of his close friends was Captain Mickey McCamish.

Captain McCamish shared the bond of being a Naval captain with West, who served as a Naval Captain in Afghanistan.

He says that Chattanooga has lost a great ambassador as West was going to continue to be a fixture of the community for years to come.

McCamish said, “There’s about 20 years difference in our age, I was telling Kevin that I need someone to follow me in these projects that I am in, because I want to make sure that they’re completed. I know which side of the mountain that I am on, but you’re a youngster at 61, and you can carry these projects on. Little did I know how the result would end up differently.”

McCamish also credited West’s selflessness as a reason for his success.

West was only 62 years old.
