More To The Story: The WeinerMobile
Beware: much hot dot punnery ahead!
CLEVELAND, Tennessee (WDEF) – I’m in Cleveland folks, and I’m trying to figure out what that contraption is way up yonder? Wait a minute, how could I’ve been so “out to lunch?”
Of course, it’s the wienermobile.
Oscar Mayer has been using this 14-thousand pound bad boy since 1936. In case you’re counting, this is the 12th variation of the original design. It takes about six months to build one.
There are six wienermobiles that travel the country. Often by request. Simply amusing people.
Two young hot-doggers always accompany the wienermobile. They have nicknames. Here’s my newest good friend, “Bun Man Brand!”
“First of all, I’m a lucky dog. I went through a bunch of interviews, and they asked me how I would like to be “Bun Man Brand” for a year? And I said I guess I cut the mustard.”
All kinds of good people stop by to look at the wienermobile. You can grab a sticker. Even a wiener whistle. It’s just a ton of fun. That’s what “At The Grill” Ally loves about her gig. Fun!
“One thing I always ask is have you ever seen the wienermobile before? I’ve found that no matter how many times you’ve seen it, it makes people smile. And that makes me happy.”
Before splitting the scene, I felt obligated to ask the most obvious of questions to the young Bun. I never hesitated. I just let ‘er rip!!
“…….now Bun, let me ask you this: do you feel like a wiener?…..
“All the time! I feel like more people should feel like a wiener! I think one must embrace the wiener in the world. That’s why I call myself the ‘Bun Man.’ You have to lean into things sometimes.”
Bun and Ally are almost done with their “tour of duty.” Then another duo will take the reigns for a year. Traveling, promoting and entertaining. Onward, with the wienermobile.
