More to the Story with Staley: Dave Staley’s Farewell
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — As the Chambers Brothers said back in late 1967, “Time Has Come Today.” News 12’s Dave Staley has had that song on his mind all day long.
And there’s a good reason for that! Here’s tonight’s “More to the Story with Staley!”
So, day is done. Gone the sun.
Time to put a cap on my local broadcasting career. What a treat it’s been.
I started my career out west, in news. Then coming to Chattanooga, to do sports, for over 35 years. One of the best moves I ever made.
I had a chance, and the privilege, to cover just about every sport under the sun: Moc’s football and basketball standout. But also, the Vols, and all of the SEC teams. And of course, Braves baseball.
And how much fun did I have with 25 years of Diamond Darlings. As far as events: World Series, Super Bowls. It was just an honor really.
And then, finishing up my career back in news.
It’s just so meaningful to sit on the morning anchor desk with Chip and Kay, two friends I’ve known for so many years. Lifelong friends. I love, treasure and cherish them both.
And More to the Story: this franchise. Talking with people that I hadn’t had a chance to talk with before. It was so cool.
I can’t thank you, the viewer, enough. For your support, your viewership and your friendship, I am forever grateful.
Words cannot express the thanks I have for my wonderful wife Ginnia, who’s always by my side. I love you honey.
And to the people here at News 12, I simply can’t thank you enough. Upstairs and downstairs.
From the minute I walked in the door, everybody was so welcoming and respectful. To put it bluntly, everybody was nice to me. My cup runneth over.
I’ll always be a News 12 guy. If Dutch ever needs a fill-in, I just might pop up again on these airways. But it’ll only be on these airwaves.
You never know… there might be more to the story!
So, I’ll be around town. This isn’t really goodbye. It’s just, “see you in a little bit.”
One last time… Dave Staley, News 12.
