More To The Story with Staley: Firefighters Gala

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Bessie Smith Cultural Center on MLK Boulevard will be a “happening” place come November the 5th.

As the Net Resource Foundation is partnering with the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters…..the IABPFF…..to host a fundraising event, featuring food and live music.

The firefighters group itself was founded back in 1972. It now wants a stronger presence in our area.

DAMIEN VINSON, CHATTANOOGA FIREFIGHTER;
“They did this event years ago. Back in the early 2,000’s. We really want to bring it back. Not only for our community, but for the firefighters who came before us.”

The Net Resource Foundation, which was born back in 2015, is looking to expand its services. And continue to develop the southside of Chattanooga.

As for the firefighters, they want to broaden their services, as far as helping the kids.

“Things have changed. We want this group to be back in the community. We want to give back to the inner city kids. We want them to know they can come to black professionals. They can talk to us and be mentored by us.”

RAQUETTA DOTLEY, NRF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR;
“Chattanooga has a lot of non-profits. It’s tough competing for the dollar, because everybody has a great cause. We try to make sure all of our events are fun events!”

Tickets, which are 50 dollars, as well as sponsorships, can be purchased by stopping by the Bessie Smith Center.

Again, November 5th, black tie…..7PM.
