Mother in law charged with false report in case where police shot man

ROSSVILLE, Georgia (WDEF) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has charged an Alabama woman for making a false report that lead to officers shooting a man to death.

It happened in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day.

Walker County deputies responded to a home in Rossville after getting a 911 cal that someone’s life was in danger.

The GBI says 65-year old Dorothy Gass from Higdon said that her daughter-in-law, Amy Gass, was going to kill her children and then kill herself.

The deputies found Gass’s father, who had a handgun.

Officers say he pointed it at a deputy who then shot him.

Mark Steven Parkinson died from his wounds.

The GBI found no evidence to support the claim that Amy Gass actually threatened her children or herself.

Dorothy Gass was charged with one misdemeanor count of false report of a crime.

The GBI continues to investigate the shooting.
