UPDATE: Motorcyclist dies after Hixson Pike wreck

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – UPDATE: Chattanooga Police confirm 21-year-old David Evans II died as a result of injuries sustained during a Thursday morning wreck on Hixson Pike.

The Chattanooga Police Traffic Division continues investigating a crash involving a motorcyclist who was traveling on Hixson Pike southbound around 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

Police say 21-year-old David Evans II was on a Yamaha YFR 300.

His motorcycle collided with a van driven by 46-year-old Henry Wilburn in the 5500 block Hixson Pike.

Police say Wilburn entered the center turn lane and turned left in front of motorcycle

Traffic Investigators continue to determine causes and contributing factors to crash.

Chattanooga Police are investigating a motorcycle versus van crash that happened in the 55-hundred block of Hixson Pike.
Authorities say the motorcyclist was traveling southbound when the van turned left in front of the motorcyclist…attempting to drive into a nearby business complex.
Police say the motorcyclist was wearing his helmet.
The driver of the van did not receive any injuries.
Investigators are trying to piece together the incident with the use of a 3-D scanner.
Sgt. Gary Martin of Chattanooga PD said, “There’s a lot of things that go into the investigation. We have to look and see if the driver of the van was able to perceive the motorcycle coming or not. Are there any great speeds involved in this. We don’t know yet, but we will know by the end of the week I’m sure.
The names of driver and motorcyclist have not yet been released.
