Murder-suicide attempt suspected in Statesboro shootings

STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) – Statesboro police say two people were shot inside an apartment in a suspected murder-suicide attempt.

The Statesboro Herald reports 23-year-old Antonio Sanchez was found dead Sunday night at Aspen Heights Apartments.

A woman, 23-year-old Allison Fleet, was also shot but survived. She was taken to a hospital in Savannah.

Statesboro Police Maj. Rob Bryan says investigators found both the front and back doors of the apartment locked, leading them to believe nobody else was inside at the time of the shootings.

Bryan says preliminary information suggests a possible murder-suicide attempt.

Police have not said which of the two shooting victims may have fired the gun.

Sanchez’s body has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for an autopsy.
