Murray Co. sends off Lady Indians to second round

CHATSWORTH, Ga. (WDEF) — It was party time in Chatsworth Thursday. The town gathered for a big send-off for the Murray County girls basketball team.

The girls boarded the bus for Augusta, where they will face Cross Creek in the next round of the state tournament.

Cross Creek is the defending state champs with a 24-1 record this season. But that doesn’t faze the Lady Indians, who earlier this week claimed their first win in the state tournament since 1978.

Chris Tipton: “It’s going to be a long trip, but it’s special because it hasn’t happened. It’s such a new experience. We’re going to kind of take it in. That’s what’s going to be awesome about it is we’re going to be able to take that in. Tomorrow we’re going to be laser focused and get ready to play and play our hearts out.”

Murray County plays Cross Creek Friday at 6 p.m.
