Murray County Middle School teacher arrested for hitting special needs student

CHATSWORTH, Ga. (WDEF) – On Friday, May 20, 2016, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) arrested and charged Bagley Middle School Teacher Shari Clanton, age 55, with one count of simple battery for allegedly hitting a special needs student at the Middle School.

The Murray County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate this incident on May 3rd after the incident was captured on the school’s video.

Clanton had been employed with Bagley Middle School for approximately 6 years.

She turned herself in to the Murray County Sheriff’s Office without incident and was released on a preset bond.

Once the investigation is completed, it will be turned over to the DA’s Office for prosecution.
