New arrests made nearly five years after deadly Chattanooga shootings
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chattanooga Police have made two additional arrests in connection to two homicides that happened nearly five years ago.
According to authorities, Willie Wooten Jr. and Anthony George were both taken into custody and booked into the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.
This case stems from a pair of homicides that occurred on December 1, 2020.
A 61-year-old man was shot and killed outside his home in the 1700 block of South Kelly Street. Later that evening, a 66-year-old woman was shot and killed at her home in the 1700 block of South Willow Street.
A third suspect, Cornelius Beasley, was arrested earlier this week.
Another suspect, Khavell Williams, was taken into custody back in July.
Today, Wooten and George appeared in court along with Williams.
The judge was asked not to set bond for Wooten and George at this time, and instead to set a preliminary hearing date.
General Sessions Court Judge Larry Ables II addressed the defendants in court, saying, “Is that true, Mr. Wooten? You would like to wait to have your bond heard on the court date that’s been proposed, which is next Wednesday? Is that the same for you, Mr. George? You talked to your attorney?”
Both men responded yes.
“Alright,” the judge replied.
Beasley did not appear in court.
The preliminary hearing for Wooten and George has been set for November 5, at 2 p.m.
