New chief deputy Austin Garrett talks about his viral video
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – After retiring from a 25 year long career with the Chattanooga Police Department on Friday, Lt. Austin Garrett begins a new career on Monday.
Chief Deputy Austin Garrett is sworn into the Hamilton County Sheriff’s department this morning in the courts building downtown.
Many people saw his emotional final sign off with his daughter, who is a dispatcher for CPD, on social media.
Chief Deputy Garrett had this to say about his sign off .
“My daughter Haley, had asked me for about a month to do that, and I hadn’t planned to do it but, it meant a lot to her, now I’m glad we did.”
“It’s impacted a lot of people, in a positive way. And I think with what’s going on in society now that’s a good thing for people to see; a different side of law enforcement.”
“I think that video brought that out.”
Family, close friends and law enforcement personnel were present for the swearing in ceremony and reception.
