New information on Walker County officer-involved shooting

Rossville, GA (WDEF) –  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Calhoun Regional Office is helping investigate the Walker County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol to conduct an officer involved shooting.
        It happened around 8:30pm Sunday evening on Cochran Drive in Rossville.
        The GBI says preliminary information indicates Walker County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the residence after a 911 call regarding a domestic dispute.
        As deputies arrived, they were met by a female who reported that the individual she had an altercation with was inside the residence and unarmed.
        The female was treated for injuries at the scene and was released.
        Additional sheriff’s deputies and Georgia State Troopers responded to the scene to secure the residence.
        The GBI reports officers on the scene observed the individual with a gun inside the home.
        Deputies and troopers told the individual to put down the gun and exit the residence several times.
        The individual was shot and killed when he left the home and pointed the gun at several officers.
        The man’s body will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur, GA for autopsy.
        That’s scheduled to happen Tuesday.
        The GBI will conduct an independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident.
        When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Walker County District Attorney’s Office for any action they deem appropriate.
