CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- On Monday afternoon, T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital Unveiled it’s renovated and expanded Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
It represents an 8 Hundred Thousand Dollar investment to the P.I.C.U.
” This new renovation really improves what we can do for children,” said Dr. Charles Woods, CEO of Children’s Hospital at Erlanger. “Who needs out intensive care services so i’m very grateful to everyone who worked to make this happen both on the foundation side, construction, nursing, physicians, many others.”
The P.I.C.U is specifically designed to care for infants, children and young adults facing serious illness or injury.
Monday’s ceremony marked a major milestone with the completion of Phase II.
Each bed space features enhanced support systems and more.
“Prior to that it was an 8 bed I.C.U and then it expanded to a 14 bed I.C.U in 2007,” said Dr. Yuvraj Kaira, Medical Director of P.I.C.U, Children Hospital at Erlanger. “And since then our community has grown, location and population has grown and so it really demanded us to increase the capacity to better serve our children. “
Phase III – the final phase of the project – will add additional single-stay private rooms.
With additional enhanced clinical equipment and systems to allow even more patients to be treated.
” it’s upon us to make sure we meet the demands of the community I think our community is growing it’s vibrant. There are alot of young families, their children, and while we don’t want to have sick children ultimately kids get sick, and then you need to have a children hospital that’s is ready to meet their needs. I think we feel like we finally are in a place where I think we can meet the needs of these children,”Kaira concluded.
