New Salem Mountain Festival Celebrates Family, Tradition, and Appalachian Heritage

Trenton, GA -(WDEF)The annual New Salem Mountain Festival brought families and visitors to Lookout Mountain for a weekend filled with music, food, and handmade art.

Organizers say the festival is about more than just entertainment — it’s a way to preserve Appalachian heritage while supporting local artisans and nonprofits.

For many, it’s also a family tradition.

“It’s generation after generation,” said festival organizer Shania Chandler.
“We’ve had bands here playing for 50 years — their families, grandkids, and kids are also performing. A lot of traditions have been passed down from family to family. That’s what makes it so special — it’s one big family.”

Dozens of local vendors lined the festival grounds, showcasing pottery, paintings, woodwork, and homemade treats.

“It’s very family-oriented — I like it,” said Shannon Gonzalez.
“The music is wonderful, the food is fabulous, and it’s amazing being surrounded by people who do so many different things. Everybody does wonderful work, and the weather’s been pleasant.”

The New Salem Mountain Festival has been a fall favorite for decades, keeping the spirit of community and tradition alive high atop Lookout Mountain.
