New Study Finds Acetaminophen Linked to ADHD

Dr. Shevonda Sherrow, with Erlanger Health System, says, "I tell them that Tylenol is safe to take if they take it as prescribed on the bottle and if they’re taking it occassionally."

So, you can imagine the concern women face when you tell them a study was just released.

It says if you take acetaminophen while pregnant, you increase your chance of having a child with ADHD.

Dr. Sherrow adds, "So, now it has a lot of women scared.  I’m disappointed on how it was brought out. It was brought out like it was a study of fact and it was a study of observation."

The study from Denmark looked at 64,000 danish children born between 1996 and 2002.

It was published on Monday in a pediatric journal.

Dr. Sherrow adds, "The study isn’t a good study to be basing any type of judgement on.  They didn’t count when they took it, why they took it, they can’t quantify anything."

Dr. Sherrow says she’s prepared to tell her patients just that when they start coming to her with questions and concerns in the coming days and weeks.
