News 12 Then: The MLK Day Parade of 1987

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) As we get ready for another annual Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial parade, let’s go back in time for a look at the parade 30 years ago.

The cause is the same, the issues are much the same, and the format is back to the long held observance.. a march down the boulevard named for the slain civil rights leader.

But some things have changed.

You will notice that MLK Boulevard has changed a lot over the last 30 years.

Also, the parade seems longer.

And they had a Grand Marshal in 1987, local football hero Reggie White.

The other person interviewed in the story is the Rev. H.H. Wright.

We’d like to think some of the kids talking at the end of the story will be out there marching again tonight as adults.
